A Hopi butterfly maiden with feather wands and headdress symbolizing clouds and rain dances with dragonflies as rain clouds gather above the mesas. Each fall, young girls take part in a ceremony named "Poliitikive" or the Butterfly dance, in which young girls represent the spirit of the butterflies traveling from flower to flower pollinating and giving life to the world around them. Both dragonflies and butterflies symbolize the promise of life giving moisture.
