Dawavendewa Portfolio

Gerald Dawavendewa's fine art reflects the rich culture of the Hopi and Cherokee people that spans thousands of years of creativity. His work is inspired by ancient prehistoric art in the Americas which include Kiva murals, pottery, petroglyphs, and Katsinam ceremonies and rituals that Gerald grew up with. Dawavendewa's involvement in the museum field gave him opportunites to explore what archaeologists and anthropologists had collected and wrote. Gerald admires early native artists such as Fred Kabotie and members of Artist Hopid who successfully developed their style to bridge traditional and modern interpretations of Hopi culture.
